Dirt Karting Australia (DKA)

Dirt Trackers Kart Club (DTKC) was formed after an advert was placed in the West Australian Newspaper and club founder Ken Ditchfield Snr called the inaugural meeting. Approximately 50 people attended the meeting and that night they formed the first committee of the Dirt Trackers Kart Club. A Busy Bee was organised at Ken Ditchfield Senior’s gravel pit at 26 Mile Peg Road, Gidgegannup. The track was pegged out, constructed and formed in four weeks.

The first race meeting was held with 14 karts. The tower was just a tin shed and was operated by the late Fred Holmes, stepfather of Ted Gittos. Rose Lawrence ran the canteen from the back of a Ute. The club raced at Gidgegannup for approximately 2 seasons, then Ken Ditchfield Snr had the foresight to move the Dirt Trackers Kart Club to the infamous Kewdale site. Here, the club ran very successfully and hosted several national titles. Unfortunately due to industrial development the Dirt Trackers Kart Club was once again on the move.

They have been at the current location at Boomerang Road, Oldbury for more than 22 years.

Membership has grown to approximately 200 racing members and 80 social members since 1992.

The original Dirt Trackers Kart Club was run under Australian Karting Association (AKA) governing body. In line with development, DTKC changed to the Australian Independent Dirt Kart Association (AIDKA) banner in 1992. DTKC has held both the State and National Championships as recently as 2010. The club is proud of these achievements considering its humble beginnings with 14 racing members.
